Cable Avoidance (CAT and GENNY)

Course Duration

Course Overview

A CAT and Genny course teaches people how to use a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny) to safely locate underground cables and pipes during excavation work. The course is designed for people who work on excavation projects, such as excavation operators, supervisors, and utilities personnel.

Confined Space (Low Risk)

Course Duration

Course Overview

A low risk confined space course teaches people how to work safely in low-risk confined spaces, including how to enter and exit them, recognize emergencies, and use the right tools and equipment. The course covers a range of topics, including:

  • Regulations and standards: Participants learn about the relevant regulations and standards for confined space entry and safety.
  •  Risk assessment: Participants learn how to identify hazards and assess risks in low-risk confined spaces.
  • Ventilation: Participants learn about proper ventilation techniques.
  • Emergency response: Participants learn how to plan for emergencies.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE): Participants learn how to use PPE correctly and safely.
  • Work restraint and fall arrest: Participants learn about work restraint and fall arrest, including the use of a harness and lanyard.
  • Atmosphere testing: Participants learn about atmosphere testing.
  • Gas detection and ventilation: Participants learn about gas detection and ventilation.
  • Personal hygiene and first aid: Participants learn about personal hygiene and first aid requirements.

Low risk confined spaces are places that have adequate ventilation, simple access, and no risk of flooding. Examples of low risk confined spaces include pub cellars, valve chambers, and stairwells.

Face Fit

Course Duration

Course Overview

Face fit testing courses teach people how to ensure that respiratory protective equipment (RPE) fits properly and protects the wearer from airborne contaminants. These courses cover topics such as:

  • Mask selection

Different masks are available for different roles, and the course teaches how to choose the right one.

  • Testing procedures

The course covers one or both testing procedures, which are designed to ensure the mask's seal fits the wearer's face.

  • Exercises

The testing procedure includes exercises to check if the mask's seal will stay tight to the wearer's skin.

  • Common faults

The course covers common faults and failures of protective equipment.

  • Best practices

The course provides practical and theory sections to guide delegates through best practices for wearing face masks in the workplace.

Dust 

This course covers the creation of dust, the different types of dust, and the health hazards they pose. It also covers the responsibilities of employees and employers for dust in the workplace

  • Understand the dangers of dust exposure in the workplace.
  • Be aware of the regulations surrounding dust.
  • Understand the main methods used to prevent and control exposure to dust.

HAVS

  • Learn about and work towards compliance with The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.
