Who Should Attend?

Anyone who works on or near public roads and footpaths, including operatives and supervisors, should attend streetworks training. This includes people who:

  • Dig up roads
  • Reinstate roads
  • Barrier off areas while cutting trees
  • Work in distribution boards
  • Perform excavations and backfills
  • Oversee operatives

Streetworks training is required by law under the New Roads and Streetworks Acts 1991 (NRSWA). It's important for people to work safely and leave roads safe for others to walk and drive on.

Training types

There are separate courses for operatives and supervisors. Operatives perform physical work, such as excavation and backfill, while supervisors plan, monitor, and supervise the work.

Refresher training

Operatives and supervisors must be reassessed every five years to maintain their skills and understanding.
